Initiatrix is one of my most simple, yet effective, songs. Written in 2010 on my Roland MC 808, I was exploring some deeper dance beats, experimenting with a diva-like flair - looking at power and control. Looking for a song with attitude to deliver the story of the Initiatrix.

This song is mixed live for each performance and the vocal effects are a lot more intricate. Manually inserting the echo at the last word of each verse line and throughout the chorus. The line that echoes, "Always crying, crying, crying..." reminded XIV of GNP and OBCT fame of a David Bowie song. (If you can guess correctly which David Bowie song you get in free to your next Ficshe show, seriously!)

The guidance of the Initiatrix is something we all experience, usually with our Mothers and then later in life with other feminine lovers or role models. It can be extended from myth into reality by real initiations or by tensions and power plays acted out in a close, personal relationship. Usually the initiator in society is man, however, in this circumstance that position is filled by the personality of female sexual and spiritual power, the Initiatrix. She is impatient, demanding and eternally justified. Following her lead is a natural step in life, no matter how woefully ignored.
